If you feel like you are being held back you consequently might feel a lot of tension in your back. At this point it is useful to explore what is it that is holding you back? It could be a number of things, such as:
-
fear of moving on from where you are now,
-
fear of feeling differently,
-
fear of changing your friendship or marriage,
-
fear of changing your job so you are on your life path,
-
fear of being judged
-
fear of failure
-
fear of success
The idea of this meditation is that your back is you, a part of you that has awareness and you know what you need when you give yourself the time and attention to find out.
Relax all through your body and move your attention into your back. Where is the tension? Put your attention into the most tight or painful area of your back. Send yourself some loving kindness and ask your back what it needs. It might take some practise and time to get an answer or you may get an answer straight away. Ask your back to tell you why it is tight or tense. Wait for the answer to come. Ask your back what you can do to help? Perhaps it needs something specific. Whatever it is, this is your body and listening to your own body's needs can help you to stay well and in tune with yourself. Doing what your body has asked of you will help you to feel deeply supported and loved and will contribute greatly to building a loving relationship with yourself.
This meditation may happen easily or may need to be repeated a few times before you are able to have a dialog with yourself. Either way writing down the result will help you ground your personal growth and will act as a record of your personal journey and changes.
